Lion (Panthera leo)  This lioness came to me as a kind of vision. It is well known that lions are adapting more and more for climbing trees. I had seen tree lions once in Kenya and now here in Luangwa. I wouldn't have seen her if it wasn't for my guide Paul, who caught a glimpse of her climbing a tree. You see, I was concentrating on a Black-headed Heron, whose photograph I was in the end able to take. The bird pretty much waited for me until I returned from photographing the lioness. It was late afternoon with only about 10 or 15 minutes left for shooting. This time I did not go by foot, but instead used the vehicle, which was less distracting for the lioness. If I had walked, she would have immediately ran away.
