African Elephant (Loxodonta africana)  Masai Mara before noon. A rare sight to see. A male elephant with such long tusks is almost never seen (in Masai Mara it is never seen, where a smaller form is more regular.) This genetic mutation was pretty much killed off by hunters in the 19th century. Furthermore, the last giants were killed during the 1970's. This elephant is probably a descendant of one of them. His chances for survival are high. He knows very well the boundaries of the area in which he is untouchable. In the last 10 years, I have not seen larger tusks in eastern Africa.
